Outline for Harry Potter fanfiction

Purpose - Outline

We wanted to write a fanfiction using an alternative point of view. Hagrid will be our protagonist. We want to focus on chapter 5, Diagon Alley. Pages 46-68 in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. The reader will be able to follow Hagrid through the story:

  • In the light house and on the boat
  • Through London to the Leaky Cauldron
  • The Leaky Cauldron and into Diagon Alley
  • Gringott, visiting the vault
  • Hagrid takes a drink at the Leaky Cauldron without Harry
  • Shopping with Harry
  • At Ollivanders
  • Back to London
  • Seeing off Harry

This appealed to us as a group the most because of the vast difference in Harry Potter knowledge we all have. In our brainstorming discussion, Hagrid came up on several occasions which led us to pinpoint a certain character we all seemed fond of and wanted more from. It let us dig a little deeper into the character we all like and shine a light on the friendly half-giant. We all wish Hagrid would play a larger role in the books and this project let us use our imagination to accomplish just that. Using the dialog already in the chapter but being able to play even more with the quirky way Hagrid speaks is a challenge we are all up for. Also what impressions did Hagrid pick up on spending his first real day with Harry Potter? Let's find out!

Hagrid found himself in a vast valley with rolling green hills as far as the eye could see. He was exhausted but determined in his mission. He was now so close to ending his pursuit then suddenly, a song-like roar echoed in the distance, Hagrid turned and ran in the direction of the roar, his pink umbrella in tow. One wild cart ride later they stood blinking in the sunlight outside Gringotts. Hagrid could see the excitement on Harry's face, and the fact that he wasn't able to stand still was a clear sign that he had never had this much money to spend. Hagrid thought for a second on what they should get first when he saw a Hogwarts student in his Hufflepuff robe. "Might as well get yer uniform," said Hagrid, nodding toward Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. "Listen, Harry, would yeh mind if I slipped off fer a pick-me-up in the Leaky Cauldron? After they had left Eeylops Owl Emporium, Hagrid looked at Harry, who was carrying the sleeping snowy owl that Hagrid had just bought, in a large cage. Harry wouldn’t stop thanking him for the best birthday present ever received, the truth was that it simply made Hagrid happy to see Harry happy. "Don' mention it," said Hagrid. "Don' expect you've had a lotta presents from them Dursleys. Just Ollivander’s left now - only place fer wands, Ollivander’s, and yeh gotta have the best wand."
